Sylvia M. Burgess
Sylvia M. Burgess was born in Stuggart, Germany on February 12, 1957.
She practices in the areas of Estate Planning, Employee Benefits, Corporate Law, Taxation, Wills, and Trust Law.
She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Delta Phi. She was the Editor in 1981-1982 and Editorial Advisor in 1982 of the Oklahoma Law Review. She is the author of"Special Powersof Appointment: It's the Court's Move," Vol. 34, No. 4 of the University of Law Review in Fall of 1981; "Cafeteria Plans and Alternative Methods for Providing Nontaxable Benefits to Employees," Vol. 13, No.'s 6 & 7, Management Compensation Planning Journal in June and July of 1985. Sylvia was a member of Oklahoma Employee Benefits Council (Governor Bellmon's Appointee)from 1987-1990. She is on the Board of Directors for Teen Court, Marie Detty Youth Services, Inc.. She is also a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section, and Taxation Section of the American Bar Association. She was the President of the Junior League Lawton, Oklahoma, Inc. from 1989-1990; a member of the Comanche County Bar Association, 1992. She was the Chairman of the Taxation Section of the Oklahoma Bar Association, 1991.
Sylvia received education from Cameron University (B.A., Magna Cum Laude, 1979), from the University of Oklahoma (J.D., 1982), and Southern Methodist University (LL.M., Taxation, 1984).
It was in 1982 that she was admitted by Oklahoma, U.S. District Court, Western District of Oklahoma and U.S. District Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. In 1983, the U.S. Tax Court and U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
Sylvia is a member of the Comanche County Bar Association, the Oklahoma Bar Association(Member, Business and Corporate Law Section), and the American Bar Association. He is also associated with the ABA.
